This Privacy Policy explains what personal data codefixhome.com (“CodeFix Home”, “we”) processes, why, and what rights you have. CodeFix Home is a free information website about home appliance troubleshooting, written mainly for readers in the United States and operated from Spain. Because the site is operated from the European Union, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Spanish data protection law apply.
1. Who is responsible for your data
Data controller: Roc Bertran Mayoral (NIF 47127842Z), Carrer del Marroc 237, 08019 Barcelona, Spain.
Contact for any privacy question or request: contact@codefixhome.com.
2. What data we process and why
a) When you visit the site
When you visit the site, our hosting provider (Namecheap) automatically records technical data in server logs: your IP address, the date and time of the request, the page requested, the referring page, and your browser and device type. These logs are needed to deliver the website, keep it secure (for example, to detect and block attacks or abuse) and diagnose errors. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating a secure website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). We do not use these logs for statistics or advertising, and we do not use them to identify visitors; we only look at them when we need to investigate a technical or security problem. Retention: the logs are kept by our hosting provider for as long as it needs them for these security and operating purposes, under its own retention practices. If we download a log to investigate a specific problem, we delete our copy once the problem has been resolved.
b) Your cookie choices
We use the Complianz plugin to show a consent banner and remember your choice. Your choice is stored in a small cookie on your device so we don’t ask again on every page. Legal basis: compliance with our legal obligation to obtain and record consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(c)). Details: Cookie Policy.
c) Website statistics (Google Analytics 4) — only with your consent
If you accept statistics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which guides are useful and how visitors find them. Google Analytics collects information such as the pages you view, how long you stay, the website or search that brought you here, your browser, device and operating system, and an approximate location (city or region) derived from your IP address. According to Google, Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We do not use this data to identify you. Google Analytics is loaded by our consent management tool (Complianz) only after you accept statistics cookies. Until then, and if you decline, our site does not load Google Analytics and sends no data to it. Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time through the cookie settings. Provider: Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC. Retention: we have set Google Analytics to keep event-level and user-level data for 2 months. Because the option to reset user data on new activity is switched on, the 2-month period for the identifier linked to your browser starts again each time you return to our site, so user-level data is kept until 2 months after your last visit. Google deletes expired data in a monthly process, so deletion can take place some time after the period ends. This setting applies to the detailed event-level and user-level data; Google Analytics also keeps aggregated statistical reports, which are not affected by it. Google signals is switched off, and we do not use Google Analytics data for advertising.
d) When you email us
If you write to contact@codefixhome.com, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and the content of your message. We use it only to read and answer your message and to correct our guides when you report an error. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering messages and keeping our content accurate (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). Retention: we keep messages for as long as needed to handle them and delete them no later than 365 days after our last exchange, unless we need to keep them longer to meet a legal obligation.
e) Search performance data
We use Google Search Console to see aggregated data about how our pages appear in Google Search (for example, search terms and clicks). Search Console does not place cookies on our website and does not give us data that identifies individual visitors.
f) Advertising
CodeFix Home does not currently show advertising and does not use advertising cookies. If we start showing ads (for example, through Google AdSense), we will update this policy and the cookie banner before any advertising technology is activated.
We do not have user accounts, newsletters, comments or contact forms that collect data from visitors. Comments are disabled on our guides.
3. Who receives your data
- Namecheap, Inc. (United States) — web hosting provider and provider of the email service for contact@codefixhome.com (included in our hosting plan), processing data on our behalf.
- Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC — Google Analytics 4 (only with your consent) and Google Search Console.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. Transfers outside the European Economic Area
Namecheap, Inc. and Google LLC are based in the United States, so personal data processed by these providers may be transferred to and stored in the United States. Both companies participate in the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, for which the European Commission adopted an adequacy decision on July 10, 2023, and we rely on that decision for these transfers. For more information, contact us at contact@codefixhome.com.
5. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw any consent you have given at any time without affecting earlier processing. To exercise these rights, email contact@codefixhome.com. We will answer within one month.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. In Spain this is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (www.aepd.es); you can also contact the authority where you live or work.
If you live in a U.S. state with a consumer privacy law, you may have similar rights to know, access, correct and delete personal information. You can use the same email address to make a request.
Do Not Track and tracking across websites
Our site does not currently respond differently to browser “Do Not Track” signals. Instead, Google Analytics only runs if you accept statistics cookies. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking, and Google signals is switched off, so we do not knowingly allow third parties to collect personal information about your online activities over time and across different websites through our site. We will update this section before introducing advertising.
6. Automated decisions
We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing, and we do not create profiles of individual visitors.
7. Children
CodeFix Home is intended for adults. It is not directed to children under 13 (or under 14 in Spain), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
8. Security
The site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and access to the site’s administration is restricted. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect the data we process.
9. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when the services we use change — for example, before enabling advertising — and show the date of the latest version at the top of this page.
