Editorial Policy

Last updated: October 27, 2026

This policy explains how CodeFix Home researches, writes, checks and updates its appliance troubleshooting guides.

1. Sources we use

  • Manufacturer documentation: owner’s manuals, installation instructions, tech sheets and official support pages.
  • Official safety agencies for safety guidance (for example, the U.S. Fire Administration).
  • Published building-code text when a guide discusses installation limits.

Every error-code meaning we publish must come from a manufacturer source. We link to that source in the guide and record the date we checked it. If two official sources disagree — or a manufacturer’s page contradicts itself — we show both and say so. We never assume that a code means the same thing on a different brand. We don’t copy text or tables from other troubleshooting sites.

2. What we add beyond official instructions

We don’t simply restate a single manufacturer’s steps. Our guides compare codes and symptoms across brands, bring together information that manufacturers spread across several pages or documents, compare official specifications, and explain what to do — and when to stop — if the official checklist didn’t solve the problem. When a statement is our own summary rather than a manufacturer’s instruction, we present it that way.

3. Safety rules

  • Every guide starts with basic safety steps (unplug the appliance; shut off water or gas where relevant).
  • We don’t publish instructions for gas-line work, refrigerant or sealed systems, live electrical testing, or microwave internals.
  • Every guide includes a clear “when to call a professional” section.

4. Who writes and checks our guides

Guides are published under the byline CodeFix Home Editorial. They are researched and drafted with the help of AI tools. Before publication, every factual claim about a code, specification or procedure is checked against the cited official source, and the guide is reviewed by the site’s editor. AI output is never published without that review.

Our guides are not reviewed by licensed appliance technicians, and we don’t present them as professional repair advice. If we add a qualified technical reviewer in the future, we will name them and state their qualifications on each guide they review. We don’t publish invented testimonials, test results, reviewers or credentials.

5. Dates and updates

The top of each guide shows the date on which its sources were last checked. We re-check code tables and specifications periodically and whenever a reader reports a discrepancy. When a correction changes the meaning of a guide, we note it at the end of the article.

6. Images

Our featured images and icons are illustrations created for CodeFix Home. They are labeled as illustrations and are not photographs of real appliances or repairs.

7. Independence

We are not affiliated with any appliance manufacturer, parts seller or repair company. Advertisers and affiliate partners, if we have any in the future, have no influence over our content. See our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure.

8. Corrections

If you find an error, please email contact@codefixhome.com or use our Contact & Corrections page. We review every report.
